Overthinking never ends well

October 7, 2016

It's not about the flooring sometimes.

Sometimes it's not about the flooring at all.

Almost every customer we encounter has a list of things that they are concerned about when it comes to choosing their flooring. Of course price is always, well almost always first but eventually the conversation turns to the hardness of the wood. This is a very legitimate question and asked for all the right reasons. When you are choosing your flooring looks are key but you also have to factor in what is going on in your home.

Kids.

Kids are great, we love kids! Not yours of course, but ours! However, kids do not care about your precious new reclaimed or new wood floor. When they are storming from one end of the house to the other, catching bad guys or terrorizing each other, the last thing on their tiny minds is the gorgeous, newly-installed flooring beneath them. They may not care but you, while trying to cook dinner, quiet the baby, and get precious to stop barking, you do care. So take a good hard look at the brood you created and then when you call in, let's keep in mind just exactly what could or could not happen to that...uh oh do you hear screaming in the living room? Better go check it out.

Dogs.

While they may be your best friend they may not be a best friend to your floors. How many dogs do you have? How big are they? Have you trimmed ole' Pooche's nails recently? These are all questions you should consider before you choose which floor will work best in your home. We have a funny saying about what dogs can do to your flooring. We call it "scooby doing," and most of you know exactly what I am talking about. It is that moment when ole doggo is full barrell going one direction and then SQUIRREL OUTSIDE WINDOW he or she makes a full one hundred and eighty degree flip around. The results for your flooring may require an ibuprofen or a glass of wine before addressing them. Fear not, dear beast master, because we have made you aware of what to do with your flooring and finish choices if something like that should occur, you will be able to make things right.

You.

Wow. I had no idea you guys are so good looking! Well even for the beautiful people how you live, where you live and what your expectations are of your floor are all factors for you to consider. Some customers can fearlessly choose a white pine floor ( very soft ) and live without a care in the world. Others will obsess over every aspect of their new purchase and clean that floor to within an inch of its life. Take a look around the house, at your spouse, your offspring-and be realistic about what wood species will work best for you. Decide whether a new or reclaimed floor will be able to offer you not just beauty, but also peace of mind.

So, happy shopping and be fearless in your decision making!
