Simple & Beautiful New White Oak Wide Plank Flooring
New White Oak - Live Sawn
In a previous blog post we discussed the issues of over thinking that can easily creep up and confuse your flooring decision. Livesawn white oak flooring is a perfect example of how you can avoid the confusion by keeping things simple. Live sawn white oak is one of the most adaptable looks in our flooring collection.
When working with white oak there are very few constraints with finish and color choices. For this project the owners used a Minwax golden oak finish perfectly bringing out the quiet, natural color in the wood.
The top coat on this floor is a urethane with a matte sheen and it is really ideal. For most people the idea of a gloss or even satin sheen is a thing of past and that is a good thing. Matte sheen will trap some light giving the floor an additional depth of color but does not intrude on the natural look and feel of a hardwood floor.
This is one of my favorite installation shots. I absolutely love how the textures and colors of the carpet compliment and perfectly contrast the warm, organic color of the flooring. The owners and their designer really allowed the flooring to show in every room by limiting the size of the rugs used. Note the fantastic grain patterns in the lower left hand corner of the shot!
The house has open second story and so in this shot we get a great view of the mixture of textures and colors in the room. Never underestimate the power of your flooring choice to affect the entire look and feel of your interior. Too often we hear from customers who waited until the end of their budgeting to factor in flooring. This is a crucial mistake as the flooring really sets the tone of the room.
The second story opens up to this foyer area with this amazing grand piano. I have to admit having visited many of our customer's homes seeing a piano let alone this beauty is rare to say the least. It is installations like this that really stress the importance of your length specification. If you want to avoid seeing too many seams in your floor with a big open floor plan look for a longer overall specification such as 3'-10' or even 5'-10'.
Mudroom looks fantastic! If you are wondering about whether or not hardwoods are suitable for this or other spaces that will see mud and moisture it really just comes down to good, consistent clean up.
The choice of cabinets and the island are a perfect compliment to the white oak. Whether you choose fixed widths or random widths there will be enough grain pattern variation to give the floor a rich aesthetic.
