New White Oak Select Grade goes Danish modern!
How about a Danish, Danish modern that is! This project features our new white oak select grade in what can only be called a real sleeper of a house. If you were rolling through this quiet neighborhood you would not give this home a second or perhaps even a first look. But what you would find inside is a truly stunning interior carefully curated by a woman with a strong eye for design.
The homeowner originally hails from Denmark but now lives in Maryland. She may have left Europe and Scandinavia but she brought along a Danish modern look like no other. I was lucky enough to have been on site during the photo shoot. She regailed me with stories of home and a massive pile of magazines, clippings and project plans that she had accumulated over the years. All that collecting and work was done in furtherance of this now realized project.
As stated above the exterior of the house is unassuming to say the least but once you step inside...
Super wide planks of select grade white oak laid out before you. Our select grade is a more highly processed floor than our character grade. The knot content is practically but not completely eliminated. The grain on this floor tends to be straighter and more uniform, or at least as uniform as one can expect. The grading process that gives us this look leaves you with a cleaner and more refined look on your floor.
The oak is finished with Rubio Monocoat DC Smoke. This stain and finish all in one is a very lightly pigmented color that catches more in the tight grain of the wood. The effect is very subtle but nonetheless gives the oak a warmer overall color.
When it comes to wide plank we always caution that the room needs to have enough scale to balance the look of the flooring. This room is a great example of that exact concept. The hallways and areas are wide open and there is plenty of visual breathing space to accomadate the wide planks.
The home is interestingly segmented. The bedrooms and personal living spaces are found at ends of long hallways. This ultimately serves to keep the bedrooms quiet and far enough away from the busier parts of the home. This hallway/dressing room leads to one of the main bedrooms.
Let's make some meatballs! While this kitchen may resemble something straight out of a Ikea catalog it is in fact what Ikea copies. All the appliances, lighting, chairs and everything else that comes together in this room are real deal and very high end. If you are a fan of this very Euro centric design this kitchen is pure visual joy.
And if you were lucky enough to be invited over this would be your room. This space is at the opposite end of the hallway from the main bedroom and the distance is sufficient to make the room feel quite private.
We always enjoy seeing what our customers do with our flooring so getting to visit this amazing project was a real treat. If you have purchased a floor from us and are exceedingly proud of what you have done go ahead and send us your pics and we will get busy bragging about and for you!
