Up off the floor and onto the walls
When it comes to flooring you know we have you covered but it does not stop there! Look at your walls and imagine them covered with the beautiful textures and colors of reclaimed wood.
Our weathered siding comes straight off the barn. You can see the varying texture with knot and nail holes all around. Siding gets its coloration purely from exposure to the elements. Depending on what side of the barn the materials come from the wood may be darker or lighter. North facing wood will tend to be much darker trending to an almost black color from the roof drip line to the bottom area where the ground moisture has soaked through the pine for years. The project in the image above is not what we call a "standard sort" of weathered siding but instead it is a silver grey sort. The silver grey sort means that we have processed out most of the variation you would normally find in weathered siding. This does create a more uniform look and for this project it looks fantastic.
This gorgeous home was clad in our standard weathered siding mix. As you can see the mix of what we call brownboard and the silver grey make for a stunning look. Brownboard is weathered siding but the non weather facing side. This means that it is closer to the original color of the materials but over time and exposure will turn grey as well. For those that do not know any exposure to water turns all wood grey. The dulling of wood fibers occurs if the fence boards are left un-sealed or bare for several seasons. The greyish white tone that develops is mostly due to the bombardment of U.V rays from the sun. Without protection the wood fibers become dry and bleached. The image below perfectly exemplifies how the material ages based on the buildings position relative to the sun.
Here is another fantastic project where the north face wanted a mix of brown and grey board for this store in upstate New York.
As noted previously this brown look will not last forever but for now creates a super dynamic texture and color for the exterior of the building. But lets not limit ourselves to just weathered siding. You can also take one of our reclaimed floors and use it for a wall application as well. Take a look at this absolutely epic project for a high school.
The project required literally acres of our antique oak remilled grade. There is also a very nice contrast with the stainless steel trim work. We always recommend that your details have a similar visual strength to the reclaimed wood so there is a balance and this project nails it.
So now that you have seen the possibilities how can you possibly go back to which shade of white to paint the walls? Get in touch and lets make something awesome!
