USGBC LEED Certification and Reclaimed Wood

United States Green Building Council & LEED Credits

If your project is going through the process of LEED certification, the following products are eligible for the following LEED credits.  LEED points are project specific and should be determined by a LEED Accredited Professional.

MRc3 – Materials Reuse for Salvaged Materials

K.D. Woods Company solid reclaimed wood flooring and millwork would be eligible for credit(s) under the MRc3 section for materials reuse for salvaged materials.

MRc4 – Recycled Content

K.D. Woods Company engineered reclaimed wood flooring products would be eligible for credit(s) under the MRc4 section for materials with recycled content.

MRc5 – Regional Materials

In most cases, if we know that you are striving for LEED certification, we can ensure that all materials for your project are sourced and manufactured within the 500-mile radius required for regional credits.

MRc6 – Rapidly Renewable Materials

The Rubio Monocoat Oil finish that we offer qualifies for this credit and is made from natural plant based products such as flax and carnauba plants, both of which are considered rapidly renewable materials.

EQc4.2 – Low Emitting Adhesives & Sealants

The Rubio Monocoat Oil finish and maintenance soaps that we offer qualify for this credit.  They are VOC free, which means that unlike conventional finishes and maintenance soaps, there is no lifetime residual off-gassing associated with the application of these products.

FSC Certification & Reclaimed Woods

Please note that FSC Recycled certification for reclaimed wood products is not required for LEED credit eligibility.  They are, in fact, specifically excluded by the USGBC from section MRc7 – Certified Wood; and are not to be included in the calculation template for the total quantity of FSC certified product on a given project.  Please see attached USGBC Memorandum regarding this subject.
