Reclaimed horse fence oak
While most of our reclaimed wood is coming from old barns and other assorted agricultural buildings our reclaimed horse fence oak comes straight out of the pastures and fields of those same farms. This flooring is either a mix of red and white oak or straight red oak and it has a fantastic and unique look.
The photo above is a great close up showing the varying grain, knot and saw kerf that will be found on the plank face of this reclaimed floor. What you are seeing is an unfinished version of this oak. It has always amazed me to see flooring unfinished and how it transforms so beautifully once an oil finish is applied. Speaking of that let's take a look at what that looks like.
The oil finish soaks in and brings up the rich, organic colors of this reclaimed oak. The exposure to light over time is how the color is achieved in the wood. The saw marks on this flooring are unique in the reclaimed world. The fences turn black from exposure to wind, water and sun and so the black that shows up is the origjnal plank color and looks fantastic.
Another unqiue aspect of this floor is its dimensions. Since fence posts have a narrower fixed dimension the reclaimed flooring it's made from is similarly limited to either 4" or 4-1/2" only. For those of you thinking that sounds a bit narrow take a look at the image above. The flooring looks wonderful at the 4" width. Keep in mind that 4" on a tape measure is not a good indicator of what the flooring will look like.
When it comes to customizing your reclaimed horse fence oak flooring the sander is your friend. The amount of saw kerf in this floor will vary widely but you can easily sand off whatever amount you like. This floor has been very lightly sanded and so the saw kerf remaining is scattered nicely. This floor is also budget friendly. In comparison to our other oak offerings this one will be easiest on the budget.
